Special to The SUN

The Pagosa Springs Rotary Club is currently hosting Alma Sigurdsson from Ahus, Sweden, who arrived in Pagosa Springs in August.

Sigurdsson celebrated her 17th birthday recently. She is fun-loving, outgoing and eager to learn and make friends. Her hometown is on the coast of southern Sweden, so she’s enjoying the contrast of a mountain community.

At Pagosa Springs High School, Sigurdsson is enrolled in some typical American classes, including U.S. History and English. She is also taking classes that have a personal interest for her like art, guitar, Americana Project and choir. She plays the piano and is an accomplished singer. She has participated with the cross-country team and is very anxious to play soccer in the spring, which is a real passion for her.

Sigurdsson newfound love is Reese’s candy.

Alma’s first host family is Tom and Julie Greenly and their children. Tom is the owner and operator of Southwest Insulation and Roofing and Julie is the prevention specialist at the elementary school.
