The San Juan National Forest Pagosa Ranger District will conduct a hazardous fuels reduction project in the Turkey Springs and Brockover Mesa areas beginning the week of Nov. 9.

A masticator will be used to cut and shred small-diameter trees and shrubs on approximately 1,000 acres of national forest lands to reduce ladder fuels and increase the spacing between the crowns of trees. The goal is to reduce the likelihood of a wildfire transitioning from the ground to the forest canopy.
