Sheriffs’ Office moves back, firm hired for future planning
Archuleta County recently took two very different steps forward regarding the courthouse — relocating the Archuleta County Sheriff’s Office back to the existing courthouse and hiring a firm to perform an analysis to help in the planning of future courthouse facilities.
Following completed remediation work in the western portion of the building, the ACSO is once again located in the Archuleta County Courthouse, effective this week.
The western portion of the courthouse — where the ACSO, detention center and courtrooms were housed — was closed following April flooding of the facility that took place when a series of rainstorms hit during a reroofing project.
Now, the ACSO is again operating out of the building, with all administrative functions up and running at the courthouse, though some minor remodeling work is still underway due to the ACSO using more of the western portion of the building than it previously had.
“We’ve officially moved all of our stuff back down,” Sheriff Rich Valdez said of his office’s administrative functions, adding, “We’re back up and running.”
The office is still working to relocate its operations and detentions functions back to the space, however, the sheriff said.
