Special to The PREVIEW

For many of us in Pagosa, October can be a most depressing month: Can’t ski; have to drive to get Blue Bell ice cream; the hunters have pretty much cleaned out the beer, jerky and potato chip shelves at our favorite grocery stores; all the gigantic RVs and motor homes at Fun Valley are gone; and the list goes on.

But, worst of all, is the exodus of our beloved Texans to their homes in the tropics (i.e., Dallas, Houston, Austin and San Antonio). We won’t see them again until the temps hit 110 in Plano and Lake Travis.

Is there nothing we can do to relieve our misery caused by their absence?

How about a genuine barn-dance/hoedown produced by a 100-percent Texan (Betty “Let Me Show You How To Two-Step” Switzer) with a country western band (Country Thunder) that knows how to play real dancin’ music?

Yep, it’s going to happen right here in Pagosa, in October in the CSU Extension building at the fairgrounds.
