The Internal Revenue Service reminds taxpayers who previously filed for an extension of time to file their tax return that they can electronically file (e-file) their returns until Oct. 15.

About 10 million taxpayers nationwide file their tax returns after April 15. Last year, nearly 240,000 Coloradoans filed for an extension of time.

IRS e-file will be available through Oct. 15 to serve these taxpayers.

E-filing is convenient, safe and secure, and taxpayers receive confirmation to keep with their records. Those who wish to e-file can do so through:

• A tax professional — Ask your tax professional if they participate in the e-file program.

• A home computer — A computer with a modem or Internet access and tax preparation software are all that is necessary. E-filing via home computer can be done 24 hours a day, seven days a week.
