An Austin, Texas woman drowned in Lake Pagosa Thursday morning, Sept. 10.

Pamela Lawrence, 48, was on vacation when she experienced a severe asthma attack while on an inflatable watercraft about 200 feet from shore. During the asthma attack the watercraft capsized. A friend swam with the boat and Lawrence toward the shore. They got within 10 feet of the shore, where they could stand up. Lawrence needed her inhaler immediately. The friend ran to where they were staying, about 2 blocks away. By the time he returned, CPR had been started on her.

Lawrence was transported to Pagosa Springs Medical Center and was later pronounced dead. An autopsy is pending.

The above information was issued by Undersheriff Tonya Hamilton.
