Welcome to the first weekly column featuring news and information about your local school district, Archuleta School District 50 Jt.

My name is Linda Reed, and I am honored to be the superintendent of this great district.

With the opening of our schools and return of our students on Sept. 8, administrators and teachers are hard at work preparing for the 2015-2016 school year. This year, we have several new members of our administrative team and one member taking on a new role.

Justin Cowan, former middle school assistant principal, is the new principal of Pagosa Springs Elementary School. He is joined by Laura Mijares, assistant principal and also mom to a recent Pagosa Springs High School graduate and two high school students.

At Pagosa Springs Middle School, we have a new assistant principal, Aaron Freed, who hails from Minnesota and is a former music teacher.

At the district level, we are happy to welcome Mike Hodgson, our finance director who joined us in May. Hodgson comes to Pagosa Springs from Amarillo, Texas.

Additionally, we welcome Blue Lindner as our shared school liaison. Lindner will be working with parents and families to ensure smooth transitions to our schools.
