Leonard G. Gallegos, 74, of Farmington, entered into eternal rest on Sunday, Aug. 23, in Farmington. He was born March 15, 1941, in Pagosa Springs.

He was an avid fisherman and hunter. He loved antique car restoration and knife building. He won many awards in local fairs.

Leonard was preceded in death by his father, Sedonio Gallegos; mother Senaida Montoya Gallegos; and sister Donelia Gallegos Silva. He is survived by his loving wife and partner of 22 years, Charlotte Gallegos, of Farmington; son David Gallegos, of Cortez, Colo.; daughters Sharla Gallegos, of Denver, and Sheryl Tapscott, of Gunnersville, Ala.; brother Floyd “Levie Gallegos” Maestas, of Farmington; two grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren.

Leonard served as chief of police in Pagosa Springs for 10 years, prior to serving as a correctional officer for San Juan County, N.M. He retired after 24 years of service.

A rosary will be recited at 6 p.m. on Thursday, Aug. 27, at the Immaculate Heart of Mary Catholic Church in Pagosa Springs.

A funeral Mass will be at 10 a.m. Friday, Aug. 28, also at the Immaculate Heart of Mary Catholic Church, with Father Kenny Udumka as celebrant.
