Special to The PREVIEW

Have you ever wanted to sail through the trees and over the river on the longest zip line of its kind in the world?

How about owning a fun Jeep? Yes, we have a 1986 CJ7 Jeep with less than 10,000 miles on the new engine, a lift kit and glass packs.

Would you like to own a beautiful wooden kayak to paddle on the local lakes?

How about a stunning diamond, tanzanite and gold pendant crafted by a local goldsmith?

Is art more your thing? How would a Rick Unger or Patricia Wyatt original painting look in your home? How about a sleeping bear carved by Pagosa’s own Chad Haspel or a stay at an exclusive boutique hotel in Port-au-Prince, Haiti? Need a nice wine cabinet?

If sports are your thing, come bid on a football autographed by the 2014 Green Bay Packers, an autographed Avalanche hockey puck or a gift certificate from a local fly fishing store.

Curiosity aroused? Then you should plan to attend the 21st annual Humane Society’s Auction for the Animals and see for yourself all the wonderful items available in the silent and live auctions.

There will be something for everyone, at a price point for everyone, including an awesome selection of gorgeous jewelry, art work, home decor items, sporting goods and a wonderful array of gift baskets and gift certificates. Don’t miss a great opportunity to purchase a special treat for yourself and do some holiday shopping early, too.

This popular Pagosa event will take place Friday, Aug. 21, at the Ross Aragon Community Center. Experience a gala evening featuring a delicious seated dinner and an enjoyable selection of wines, beers and soda from the cash bar.

Tickets are $35 and available only in advance of the event. Tickets may be purchased at the Humane Society Thrift Store and animal shelter, Higher Grounds Coffee, or by calling 264-5549.

The Community Center doors will open for the event at 6 p.m. Festivities will begin with the silent auction, followed by dinner at 6:30 p.m. and then the live auction.

Live music will be provided by Tim Sullivan and Positive About Pagosa’s Thad McKain will be the evening’s emcee.

Popular professional auctioneer Ken Kincaid will again handle the bidding activity and he will be ably assisted by our always entertaining crew of local auction spotters. Dress is Pagosa fancy (jeans are OK).

Please plan to attend one of the most enjoyable evenings of the year in support of a great cause.

The Humane Society of Pagosa Springs serves our community by providing homeless and lost animals with temporary shelter and care until they can be reunited with their owners or an adoptive family can be found. We also operate Humane Society Thrift Store downtown, which serves the needs of so many in our community by offering low-cost and high-quality gently used household items, clothing and much more.

Our local Humane Society does not receive any funding from the Humane Society of the United States, American Humane, the ASPCA or the United Way. The animal shelter relies on revenue from private donations, our thrift store and fundraisers such as the Auction for the Animals to create a safe haven for animals in need.

For more information on the event, please contact the Humane Society at 264-5549. See you at the auction.
