The Pagosa Fire Protection District has a new assistant chief on board following the resignation of Brian Leewitt in early July.

Randy Larson began in the position on Aug. 3 and brings more than 33 years of firefighting experience to the job.

Chief Diane Bower previously indicated that she was interviewing two candidates for the position, with both being from the Four Corners area and having experience in an assistant chief role.

When asked what set Larson apart, Bower said, without hesitation, “His love for volunteers.”

She added that, so far, Larson has proven to be a good fit for the department.

“I hope to bring some new eyes to the department, and experience,” Larson said, adding that he believes the district is heading in a good direction and he hopes to help that continue.
