A residence in southern Archuleta County was destroyed by fire late last week, with the cause of the fire still undetermined and under investigation.

According to the Pagosa Fire Protection District’s Colton Calavan, who served as incident commander, the fire was initially reported as a garage fire at about 6:45 p.m. on Thursday, Aug. 6.

By the time PFPD personnel arrived at the scene on County Road 359 (Coyote Park Road), the garage was fully involved, Calavan reported.

The PFPD responded to the scene with two engines, four tenders and 22 personnel, Calavan said, with those resources on scene for over eight hours, until approximately 3 a.m. Friday, Aug. 7.

At that point, the scene was left in a controlled status, Calavan explained, and crews returned at 6:30 a.m. to continue overhaul of the site, which he said includes combing through the debris to check for hot spots.
