Last Friday, Aug. 7, CenturyLink announced it is laying off approximately 1,000 company employees nationwide.

There are more than 5,000 CenturyLink employees in the state of Colorado, and as a result of the cut-back, the CenturyLink retail store in Pagosa Springs is closing.

CenturyLink released an official statement saying the company is forced to continually evaluate cost structure and business practices, and must adjust operations to meet the needs of business. In this case, that led to the closure of the Pagosa store.

In addition, the statement said that impacted employees from the local store may apply for other positions within the company or receive a severance package. Employees may also participate in outplacement assistance programs, including career planning, resume preparation, interview preparation and job search method training.
