Special to The PREVIEW

Come one, come all — bring your quilted items to the fair.

The Archuleta County Fair is coming soon. Please plan to bring your quilts to the show for judging on Saturday, July 25. We need your quilts.

There are many categories for quilts at the fair. Along with traditional, bed-sized quilts, there will also be wall hangings, art quilts, table runners, recycled finds and Christmas quilts.

Everyone is welcome to participate. We have categories in a wide variety of quilts, including traditional, hand-pieced quilts, machine-pieced, hand-quilted, machine-quilted, professionally quilted and hand-tied.

Some of the quilts are constructed using no patterns at all — just sewing a strip here and there, adding a little border, etc. Some of the quilts are more intricate pattern piecing.

There is a “First Timer” category for those entering the contest for the first time. It offers a $25 prize. But, everyone can look forward to the judging for Grand Champion, Grand Champion Reserve and Judge’s Choice, along with all the blue and red ribbons.

We also have a category for young people just learning to sew.

Quilts should be brought to the Archuleta County Extension Office on U.S. 84, on Saturday, July 25, between 8 a.m. and noon. Judging will be at 1 p.m.

Anyone is welcome to watch the judging. It is a wonderful educational experience, and you get a first look at the winners. The quilts are judged anonymously. Please plan to participate.
