The man whose body was found in and recovered from Lake Pagosa Wednesday, July 15, has been identified as Grant Mildenberger, 33, a local man.
According to Archuleta County Coroner Dan Keuning, an autopsy revealed that Mildenberger drowned.
Mildenberger’s body was found by a boater at approximately 11 a.m. on June 15, reported Lt. George Barter of the Archuleta County Sheriff’s Office. His body was subsequently recovered and taken to Durango for an autopsy.
Keuning stated that there were no signs of trauma or other suspicious findings during the autopsy. Results of toxicology tests will not be available for several weeks.
It was unclear how long Mildenberger had been in the water, Keuning reported.
An investigation into what happened to Mildenberger is underway, Barter explained, and officials are seeking any information available.
Barter said Mildenberger was last seen or heard from sometime Friday, and Undersheriff Tonya Hamilton reported that Mildenberger was not reported missing.
Mildenberger left on a black mountain bike with bright blue wheels and had with him an acoustic guitar in a soft backpack case, Barter said. Neither item has been recovered.
Too, Barter has been unable to locate evidence of where Mildenberger may have entered the lake. He lived near the lake.
