The man whose body was found in and recovered from Lake Pagosa Wednesday, July 15, has been identified as Grant Mildenberger, 33, a local man.

According to Archuleta County Coroner Dan Keuning, an autopsy revealed that Mildenberger drowned.

Mildenberger's body was found by a boater at approximately 11 a.m. Wednesday, reported Lt. George Barter of the Archuleta County Sheriff's Office. His body was subsequently recovered and taken to Durango for an autopsy.

Keuning stated that there were no signs of trauma or other suspicious findings. Results of toxicology tests will not be available for several weeks.

An investigation into what happened to Mildenberger is underway, Barter explained.

Barter said Mildenberger was last seen or heard from sometime Friday.

Anyone who may have seen or heard from Mildenberger between Friday and Wednesday or has other information that may be helpful is asked to contact the ACSO at 264-8430 or by calling Archuleta County Combined Dispatch at 731-2160.

Keuning said Mildenberger's was the third drowning so far this year, with the others taking place in a hot tub and river.

Keuning urged people to take extra precautions in and around water, especially during the risky times of year, and to tell people where you are going, what you are doing and when you plan to return.
