IRS advises to check withholding to avoid tax surprise

The Internal Revenue Service reminds taxpayers that summer is a good time to consider a mid-year withholding adjustment. Tax planning now may provide a lower tax bill later.

“While some taxpayers prefer to get a large refund, those struggling financially may want to look at their situation, make adjustments to withholding and get a boost in take-home pay,” said Karen Connelly, IRS spokeswoman. “No one wants a surprise at tax time. Checking your withholding now allows plenty of time to catch up if you’re having too little withheld.”
