Raccoon damages arrester, knocks out power to 4,110 customers

At 3:15 a.m. Tuesday, July 7, a raccoon climbed onto a transformer in the La Plata Electric Association (LPEA) Piedra Substation in Archuleta County, damaging an arrester and knocking 4,110 customers out of power.

By approximately 6:20 a.m., three of the four circuits affected had been restored, leaving 909 customers out of power.
