A new paint recycling program that began July 1 will make it more convenient for households and most businesses to recycle unwanted paint. The Colorado Department of Public Health and Environment will oversee the program, created by Senate Bill 14-029.

More than 100 drop-off sites, mostly paint and hardware stores, will begin accepting paint from the public this week. Another 70 sites are expected to join the program in the coming year.

Paint drop-off sites will accept all paint brands, regardless of where they were purchased. Items that can be dropped off for recycling include most house paints, primers, stains, sealers and clear top coatings (varnish and shellac)
