The new fiber optic network lease agreement has officially been approved by the Archuleta School District Board of Education after receiving a green light from the Town of Pagosa Springs and Archuleta County.

The intergovernmental agreement (IGA), allows the school district to tap into two unused fibers belonging to SCAN, the Southwest Colorado Access Network. The agreement was first proposed in May after the school district received word that the cost of Internet service would increase from $2,500 to $10,000 per month.

The school district can transition directly from the current service provider to SCAN. The new agreement is expected to result in more reliable and reasonably priced Internet. It will also result in a tenfold increase in capacity.
