Q: When homes are selling as quickly as they are today in Colorado, why should I work with a Realtor rather than selling my home on my own?

A: Selling (or buying) real estate has become a fairly complicated process due to the many rules, regulations and laws that govern how it happens. While some people try to complete a housing transaction without professional help, more than 90 percent of homes are bought and sold with the help of a licensed real estate professional.

In Colorado, the Real Estate Commission (a) has the authority to set and enforce many of the rules and regulations, (b) creates and updates the numerous forms that need to be completed by buyers, sellers and real estate brokers, and (c) oversees the licensing process to become a real estate agent. To assist people in the buying or selling of real estate in Colorado, you must have a real estate license.

While many people believe that everyone with a real estate license is a Realtor, that is not the case.
