Despite sunshine, caution urged near water

While today's forecast shows only a chance of isolated showers and thunderstorms, local authorities are reminding people to remain cautious around waterways.

According to Thad McKain, Archuleta County's director of emergency management, the National Weather Service let all flash flood warnings that were in effect expire, though a flash flood watch (a step below a warning) remains in effect through this evening (Friday, June 12).

Too, more moisture is expected Saturday, and state and local authorities are keeping an eye on that storm.

And while a brief reprieve from moisture will allow river levels to recede, they are expected to continue to run high in the coming days, and McKain urged continued vigilance, especially with children and pets.

McKain is also reminding people to contact Archuleta County Combine Dispatch at 731-2160 should any situations arise or anything concerning is noticed.
