Volunteers needed

Posted

There is one volunteer group that you will find at more events than any other volunteer organization in the county. You can easily spot the San Juan Mounted Patrol (SJMP) decked out in their western hats and blue shirts with badges.

You will find the SJMP helping with security, directing traffic, organizing parking and assisting with crowd control during the Red Ryder Roundup, music festivals, dances, Car Show, ColorFest, Rotary’s Kentucky Derby Gala, Humane Society’s Auction for the Animals, Rotary’s Fourth of July parade and the Archuleta County Fair, along with other community functions.

You’ve even seen the group assisting emergency services and law enforcement with searches and recovery efforts.

Now, the SJMP is reaching out for some much-needed help.

The patrol needs additional volunteers to continue providing services to the community at the same level it has provided in the past. Its  mission is to aid the community by assisting law enforcement, public safety, local activities, and search and rescue operations.

Although the SJMP is available to perform all of their services at no charge, organizations are encouraged to donate to the group to help with building upkeep, taxes and utility payments, insurance, equipment costs such as two-way radios, and training costs.
