Special to The PREVIEW

The first week of June marked the beginning of Habitat for Humanity’s build season with the first of six home repairs scheduled to occur throughout the summer.

The need for affordable home repairs in Archuleta County is great. Many seniors here live on a fixed income without extra money to put toward the maintenance of their homes. Without proper care, the home can deteriorate over time, along with the outlook of the homeowner.

Habitat for Humanity’s home repair program partners with low-income homeowners in need of interior and/or exterior home repairs. Project labor is provided by volunteers to keep costs low. The homeowner is responsible for covering the cost of materials and is subsequently set up with a no-interest loan that allows for affordable monthly payments that can extend for up to seven years.
