Flash flood warning in effect until 2 p.m.

The National Weather Service has issued a flash flood warning for Archuleta County and Southeastern La Plata County, with the warning in effect until 2 p.m.

According to the warning, at 10:53 a.m., emergency management and spotters reported thunderstorms producing heavy rain near Ignacio and Falfa.

The warning states that heavy rain will be moving into Archuleta County, with rainfall amounts nearing one-half to 1 inch of rain in 30 minutes.

The warning also lists several locations that may experience flooding, including Pagosa Springs, Allison, Tiffany, Pagosa Junction, Chromo, Arboles and Chimney Rock, among others.

The warning states that flash flooding is expected to begin shortly, and excessive rainfall over the warning area will cause mud slides near steep terrain. The mud slides, the warning notes, can consist of rock, mud, vegetation and other loose materials.
