Pagosa’s Justin Cowan was chosen for and accepted the position of PSES principal Tuesday. Cowan most recently served as assistant principal and athletic director for Pagosa Springs Middle School from 2008 until being appointed to the elementary school post.
“I woke up this morning with an overwhelming sense of gratitude to my community, my leadership team, and staff for recognizing me as their next colleague and leader,” Cowan wrote in a statement to The SUN Wednesday. “I am moving from one great relationship with an amazing set of educators to another just down the road. The district’s leadership has given us a strategic framework that sets us up for success and we’re going to continue to do great things at the elementary school. What an awesome responsibility it is to have the privilege of educating our children.”
Former PSES principal Kate Lister resigned from the position prior to the end of the school year after taking a job with Generation Schools Network, a nonprofit that works with schools to increase learning without increasing workload or costs.
Archuleta School District Superintendent Linda Reed said four candidates were interviewed on June 1 for the position.
