Special to The PREVIEW

It is springtime in Pagosa and many women are looking through their closets and realizing that their spring and summer wardrobes are a bit drab, overused and outright sad. Two local nonprofit agencies, FACE (Foundation for Archuleta County Education) and RACC (Ross Aragon Community Center) are going to come to the rescue with a fun Garden Gala event from 6 to 9 p.m. on Thursday, June 11, at the Ross Aragon Community Center.

The community room will be transformed into an elegant garden venue with beautiful flowers and sparkling lights under the direction of event coordinator LaQuita Johnson.

The Garden Gala will include dinner and a cash bar along with a fashion show featuring clothing and accessories from several local stores.

There will also be a “Brown Bag Auction,” which will feature items from each of these stores. Attendees can purchase tickets and place them in a brown bag for chances to win their selected item in a drawing. As a bonus, you could win a $500 shopping spree at participating stores.

The Garden Gala will help FACE fund grants for teachers in our county to purchase equipment needed for educational enrichment in the classrooms, as well as assist RACC in supporting after-school programs at the center.

Tickets can be purchased for $35 and tables of eight can be reserved through the Community Center by calling 264-4152.

“In addition to our goals of supporting these two important nonprofit organizations, we want to support our local businesses as well,” said FACE president Lynne McCrudden. “These businesses consistently give their enthusiastic support to our local nonprofits and we want to let them know that we appreciate all they do to help Pagosa Springs flourish.”

So ladies, whether you are hiking through our beautiful national forests, taking advantage of the many arts performances in our town, enjoying our local brew pubs and restaurants or planning a fun vacation, there is no need to look shabby.

Come to the Garden Gala and find out how you can spruce up your wardrobe and help support some very worthy organizations in Pagosa Springs. You will feel good knowing you are supporting education in Archuleta County and as an added bonus, you will look good.
