Unemployment rate drops in April

Posted

With the grand opening of Walmart on April 22 and the recent addition or expansion of several smaller businesses within the community, Pagosa Country’s unemployment rate continued to fall in April.

According to a report issued yesterday by the Colorado Department of Labor and Employment, there were 5,566 people in Archuleta County’s labor force in April, and, of those, 5,287 had jobs while 279 did not, which produced an unemployment rate of 5 percent.

This is down over the month from 5.6 percent in March, when there were 5,558 people in the labor force — including 5,245 with jobs and 313 without. It is also quite an improvement over the year compared to 6.9 percent in April 2014, when there were 5,526 people in the labor force — including 5,144 with jobs and 382 without.
