A Department of Local Affairs (DoLA) grant application to help support the Downtown Task Force was just one of several items the Pagosa Springs town council decided to move forward with at last week’s marathon meeting.
Town Manager Greg Schulte introduced the subject by explaining that a team from Downtown Colorado Inc., (DCI) conducted an assessment of Pagosa Springs in 2012 and offered a number of suggestions to improve and revitalize the downtown area.
Since then, a number of local business people have continued to work toward completing one of the suggested tasks — namely, forming a downtown development authority (DDA).
As it turns out, three other communities — Bayfield, Ignacio and Silverton — have recently been assessed by DCI and are also working to complete their suggested tasks. Therefore, DoLA’s regional manager, Ken Charles, recommended Pagosa Springs join these three other communities to combine resources and apply for a grant to hire a consultant.
