At the May 13 meeting of the Pagosa Springs Community Development Corporation (CDC), Archuleta County Commissioner Michael Whiting was introduced as the newest member of the CDC board.

During the meeting, Whiting chose to overlook the mission and practices of the CDC by misrepresenting the practices of a local business. Whiting falsely stated that, “Press releases tend to bounce off of The Pagosa SUN.”

This is the same commissioner who touts forcing “honest dialogue” on the county’s website, yet he has never discussed his concerns about the newspaper’s editorial policy with the current editor/publisher.

Whiting even went on to say, “I think that the business community should come together through a coalition of the two governments and the two or three entities that are working on economic development and say, ‘We’d like you (The Pagosa Springs SUN) to consider changing your outlook on your role in promoting local businesses.'”
