First, the Pagosa Area Water and Sanitation District (PAWSD) waived the water connection fees it normally charges for supplying potable water to a site and, second, the Pagosa Springs Town Council agreed to front the cash for the first phase of the project.
On April 26, the GGP Board President Kathy Keyes penned a letter to the PAWSD board requesting that PAWSD participate in the GGP project (beyond a previous letter of support) by waiving the water connection fees, including installation costs and connection fees.
The project will use three different water sources — naturally heated geothermal water, river water and potable water (for drinking and to wash vegetables grown at the site).
The letter also detailed other grants and support the project has received, including a $275,000 grant from the Department of Local Affairs (DoLA) to fund 75 percent of the hardscape. The grant requires a dollar-for-dollar match and was received jointly with the town.
