On Monday, May 18, the Mardel Gallegos Center Head Start celebrated the 50th anniversary of the Head Start program that was launched in 1965 by President Lyndon B. Johnson.

Project Head Start began as part of Johnson’s war on poverty. It is now the oldest and largest federal program to deliver high-quality early learning opportunities across our country.
