Airport receives almost $5 million for taxiway project

Posted

The Archuleta County Board of County Commissioners voted unanimously Tuesday afternoon to accept more than $4.7 million in grant funding from the Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) for safety-related construction at Stevens Field, Archuleta County’s airport.

The project, which will likely begin in early June and last 100 days, will complete the second half of Taxiway A, which runs parallel to the runway.

More specifically, the parallel taxiway will be extended from the last existing connector, A3, to the south end of the runway, where it will connect at A5. Midway in between A3 and A5 will be a new connector, A4.

Too, A3 will be widened to allow aircraft to taxi from the runway to the fixed-base operator (FBO) ramp without a wingtip hitting a snowbank during winters with significant snowfall.
