County facility update

As expected, the courthouse is at the forefront for Archuleta County’s elected officials and staff following the recent flooding of the western portion of the building after a series of storms hit during a reroofing project.

The flooding primarily struck the jail, rendering it uninhabitable and forcing Archuleta County inmates to be housed in La Plata County for the foreseeable future, and also affected nearby areas, causing the county to evacuate the western portion of the courthouse, including the Sheriff’s Office.

Now, nearly three weeks later, the courthouse reroofing project is nearing completion and county staff is beginning in earnest an effort to determine the best way to move forward.
