Despite opposition, town’s marijuana ordinance advances

Although the Pagosa Springs Town Council has conducted several public hearings since the beginning of the year to discuss various aspects of its new marijuana ordinance, it wasn’t until this week’s meeting that a number of marijuana opponents finally showed up to voice their concerns.

However, their arguments against allowing marijuana establishments within the town limits, while passionate and well spoken, may have been too late, having no apparent effect on the way the final vote turned out.

According to the materials Town Planner James Dickhoff included in the council’s agenda packet before the meeting, Ordinance 825 will amend Chapter 6 of the Municipal Code by adding Article 5, which allows for “the regulation and licensing of marijuana business establishments.”
