Nerds and Tigers are Global-bound

At the state tournament for Destination Imagination in Denver, two of Pagosa Springs’ teams qualified to go on to compete at the international level.

The DI Nerds qualified for the fourth time to compete at Globals in the fine arts division. They will be joined this year by the middle school team the DI of De Tiger, who qualified in the scientific division.

The state tournament has teams from across the state and every level from 5A to single A, home-school and private schools. Only the top three in each division are invited to go on to the next level.

Globals are held at the University of Tennessee in Knoxville on May 20-23. There will be 1,400 teams from 48 states and 18 countries competing for four days. According to Chuck Cadle, CEO of Destination Imagination Inc., this is the largest tournament ever.

Destination Imagination is a competition that challenges students in one of seven open-ended challenges requiring young people to apply science, technology, engineering and math (STEM), in addition to improvisation, theater arts, writing, project management, communication, innovation, teamwork and community service.
