Commissioners consider solutions, discuss progress

Following last week’s and weekend’s flooding that left the western portion of the Archuleta County Courthouse closed, county staff and elected officials have been hard at work determining the best course of action regarding the building and the need for a new building.

The flooding, which came while the roof over that portion of the building was being replaced, forced the transport of inmates to La Plata County and forced the closure of the Archuleta County Sheriff’s Office and for all the power in that wing of the building to be shut off.

The flooding also came on the heels of the Archuleta County Board of County Commissioner’s announcement that a citizen task force would be empaneled to help the county determine how to move forward with either repairing the existing building or building a new facility or multiple facilities.
