The Archuleta County Department of Human Services was cause for celebration at the April 21 meeting of the Board of County Commissioners, with an announcement made that the department was no longer on a performance improvement plan with the state.

With the announcement, the board presented DHS Director Matt Dodson with a certificate of appreciation for the department’s “excellent execution” of its improvement plan with the state.

The state has been more involved with the local department since the fall of 2014, when the Colorado Department of Human Services performed a Child Protection Program Review, which was followed up with additional conversations between the state and “county leadership, community stakeholders and staff,” according to an email from Liz McDonough, communications manager for the state department, received by SUN staff in October 2014.
