Nearly two years after West Fork fires, region receives tourism recovery grant

Archuleta County is one of four counties that will benefit from grant funds designed to help the area tourism industry recover after the West Fork Fire Complex of two summers ago.

The Rio Grande Watershed Emergency Action Coordination Team (RWEACT) worked in partnership with groups from Archuleta, Hinsdale, Mineral and Rio Grande counties to develop a comprehensive three-year marketing plan.

“The West Fork Complex fires affected our communities,” RWEACT spokesperson Kristine Borchers explained. “As the forestland continues to recover, so do our local businesses and economies.”
