Renewable Forest Energy’s (RFE) biomass power generation project was awarded a federal $250,000 Wood Innovations Grant last week that will help the company finalize its design for a power plant in Archuleta County, among other work.
The grant was awarded by the U.S. Department of Agriculture (USDA) last Thursday, April 9, with over $9 million awarded to projects in 23 states.
“The Pagosa Springs Biomass Power Project is pleased to accept a USDA 2015 Wood Innovations Grant. This comes after many years of collaborative work with community stakeholders as part of the San Juan Headwaters Forest Health Partnership (www.sanjuanheadwaters.org),” a written statement from RFE noted, also stating, “The grant will fund completion of detailed engineering for the community-scale power plant and completion of a comprehensive market analysis for biochar, which will be a major by-product of the power generation process.”
