January sales tax collections up 5.3 percent

The January sales tax report received by Archuleta County last week looks impressive at first glance — with a 25-percent increase — but, upon closer inspection, is actually relatively consistent with the rate of growth experienced during 2014, at 5.3 percent.

According to an email from Archuleta County Finance Director Larry Walton, the gross amount of the January 2015 sales tax revenue was $620,349, meaning the town and the county will each receive $310,174 since they share sales tax revenues equally.
