obit-derek9-(1)Derek M. Davis-Padilla passed away at the early age of 28 years old. Derek was born Feb. 2, 1987, in Orange County, Calif. He is preceded in death by his grandparents, Leon and Goldie Turman and Bill Sr. and Michele Padilla. He is survived by his parents, Bill Jr. and Karen Padilla, of Pagosa Springs; brother and sister-in-law Sean and Fionna Padilla; sister and brother-in-law Melissa Padilla and Steven Solis; sister Amber Ware; sister and brother-in-law Desire and David Smith; brother and sister-in-law Carlos and Sara Padilla; nieces and nephews Miquela and Maxine Padilla, Zoe and Eli Smith and Gabriela Padilla. He was also survived by numerous aunts, uncles and cousins who loved him very much.

Growing up in Pagosa Springs on the San Juan River led to Derek’s passion of outdoor activities. He enjoyed river rafting, hiking, paint balling and BMX biking. Derek was an exceptional musician, singing and playing live at local venues. He was an avid songwriter and could play a variety of instruments.

Derek was a jack of all trades; he enjoyed roofing and often worked in the construction trade. He trained as an EMT, passing his classes before settling on being a chef. Working hard, he always strived to do better in life excelling at whatever job he had.

Derek will be remembered for the fierce loyalty he showed for his family and friends. Many days of the week, you could find Derek playing with his nieces and nephews; he was loving and attentive, never too busy to give his time. We will miss our Derek as we say goodbye to our loving son, brother, uncle, nephew and friend. You will always be in our hearts. We love you.

A celebration of Derek’s life will be held at the Archuleta County Extension building on Sunday, Feb. 15, at 3:30 p.m. There will be a potluck after.
