Town continues 2015 budget debates

Despite a full array of work sessions dedicated to hashing out budgetary concerns, the Pagosa Springs town councilors continue to agonize over how best to spend the taxpayers’ money.

Town Manager Greg Schulte presented the preliminary budget for fiscal year 2015 to the council on Sept. 18. Since then, town council has met with each department head to hear how much money will be needed for next year and how it will be used.

The town then held a special meeting on Oct. 29 — official decisions can only be made during meetings, not work sessions — where Schulte presented a condensed list of the major budgetary sticking points.

Still, the debate for each issue has been so in-depth that only half the list was resolved. Schulte later warned that council must have everything resolved and be ready to adopt the final budget by its first meeting in December.
