The League of Women Voters will host an Archuleta County Commissioner Candidate Forum on Tuesday, Oct. 7, at 6 p.m. at the Ross Aragon Community Center.
The forum will include those two candidates running for the Board of County Commissioners District 3 seat, incumbent commissioner Michael Whiting and Republican challenger Ray Lattin.
The League of Women Voters Forum will begin with introductions, followed by several questions for each candidate compiled by the league on county commission issues. Following this, the floor will be open to questions directly from the audience in a town hall-style meeting.
The League of Women Voters was founded in 1920 to promote political responsibility through informed and active citizen participation in government. There are approximately 80,000 members of the League of Women Voters within all 50 states and the Virgin Islands. In Colorado alone, there are over 1,500 members.
The league is a nonpartisan organization that neither supports nor opposes any candidate or political party. The league will take positions on issues only after in-depth study to provide voters with that analysis. Because of this style of analysis, the league enjoys a reputation in the community for providing voters with reliable, balanced information.
The League of Women Voters is a 501(c)4 organization recognized by the IRS and, as such, is available to receive donations from individuals and businesses to further the work of providing unbiased information to registered voters in a nonpartisan setting.
