“There’s just never anything to do in Pagosa on Monday nights.”

How many times have you heard that? Well, this coming Monday night, Sept. 15, is going to be different. Starting at 6 p.m. in the lobby of First Southwest Bank, Pagosa Springs’ two Rotary clubs will be hosting a Rotary Day reception. Everybody in Pagosa and Archuleta County is invited. Refreshments will be served. Dress is “Pagosa casual” (now that’s real casual).

In an informal setting, this evening presents you with an opportunity to learn about Rotary International, about each of the two local Rotary clubs and about the year-round involvement in community service in which both Rotary clubs are engaged. You’ll also get to meet many Rotarians, some of whom you probably know.

Your two local clubs have a diverse membership and, for some of you, this fact alone might be incentive to join one of the local clubs. Being in Rotary is one of the best ways to meet interesting people whom you might otherwise not run into. Being in Rotary also leads to the formation of some of the best friendships you’ll ever develop in your life. But for most local Rotarians, belonging to Rotary provides the best avenue for giving back to our community, for finding ways to perform a variety of worthwhile community services. Most Rotarians feel that this is the most satisfying part of belonging to one of the clubs.

The Pagosa Mountain Morning Club meets on Wednesday mornings at the Buffalo Inn. The Pagosa Rotary Club meets at noon every Thursday at Nello’s.

In case you’re wondering, there will be no “hard sell” at Monday night’s reception. The main purpose of the event is to let interested community members learn more about what Rotary is and what Rotary does here at home, as well as abroad. It’ll be worth your time to drop in for a few minutes and see what this Rotary thing is all about.
