With efforts underway to revitalize an economic development organization in Pagosa Springs, the unemployment rate for the county remained steady from June to July.

There were 36 more people in the county holding jobs, according to a report issued last week by the Colorado Department of Labor and Employment — 6,381 in July compared to 6,345 in June. The number of people claiming unemployment remained exactly the same at 344, which held the unemployment rate steady at 5.1 percent.

Over the year, the unemployment rate has improved nearly two full percentage points. It was 7.0 percent in July 2013, when there were only 6,079 people employed in the county and 461 people claiming unemployment.
