Many counties and the surrounding communities in our state are grappling with the issues of gas and oil drilling and fracking. These issues are also here in Archuleta County. It is critical that we know our rights and responsibilities involving these issues, and that we also know the rights and responsibilities of the gas, oil and geothermal industries.

Archuleta County is currently drafting regulations related to how we can collaborate with these industries to have successful drilling while respecting the environmental, economic, aesthetic and health needs and desires of our community, as well as the property rights of its citizens.

To facilitate a constructive conversation and to provide some much-needed information about this topic, the Pagosa Social Action Team (PSAT) will present a viewing of the video, “Rooted Lands,” introduced by a panel of experts and followed by a public discussion of this issue. This event will take place on Wednesday, Aug. 20, at 6 p.m. in the Ross Aragon Community Center south room. We encourage all interested parties in the Archuleta County community to attend and to participate in this public forum.

Refreshments will be provided. PSAT is a committee of the Pagosa Unitarian Universalist Fellowship.
