obit-darlene-wilsonDarlene Wilson, 76, passed away July 26 in Pagosa Springs. She was born June 1, 1938, in Long Beach, Calif. Being in a military family, she lived in many places before her father retired from the military in the late 1940s. She graduated from high school in Spokane, Wash. The family then moved to Orlando, where her father worked in the space industry. She married and moved with her husband and daughter, Theresa (Terri Tarr), to Cupertino, Calif., in 1965. She worked for Lockheed-Martin in the credit union there as an accountant.

Darlene retired in 1994 and eventually moved to Pagosa Springs in 1999 to be closer to her daughter, Terri. She loved being here; she loved her growing dome and grew produce for her family and neighbors. She was always a hard-working woman that would help her friends with anything needed. She looked forward to, and enjoyed working at, the health fair for 14 years.

Darlene is survived by her daughter, Terri Tarr; her sisters, Martha Austin, of Lowell, Ore., and Patrician McKenna, of Centralia, Wash. Darlene had many wonderful friends in Pagosa Springs. Being friends to Darlene meant to be there for them, enjoy their company and to give of herself. All of her friends knew that they were special to her. Her closest friend in Pagosa Springs was Carol Ball. The family wants to thank all of you that helped Darlene and Terri with Darlene’s declining health in the last two months. The family wants to thank the staff who cared for Darlene at the Pagosa Springs Medical Center.
