Today, 12 fraternity brothers from Western Kentucky University will ride into Pagosa Springs, one of the many stops along their coast-to-coast bike ride to raise money and awareness for the BrightFocus Foundation’s Alzheimer’s Disease Research program.
The team left Mancos this morning and will bike 88.58 miles to rest in Pagosa tonight. They will depart Pagosa tomorrow, June 6, heading to South Fork, 42.36 miles away.
The group left from Oceanside, Calif. on May 24 and will complete their ride at the National Mall in Washington, D.C. on July 18. The ten cyclists and their two drivers will pass through nine states on their over 3,000 mile journey.
Each day, the team dedicates their ride to a person with Alzheimer’s disease or a caregiver for an Alzheimer’s patient.
Stacy Pagos Haller, CEO and president of BrightFocus, stated in a press release, “This cross-country bike ride is needed more than ever. At a time when Alzheimer’s disease threatens to overwhelm our health care system and our families, we must accelerate the search for a cure.”
The team’s goal by riding across the country is to raise $100,000 to fund research for a cure for the disease.
