The Colorado Department of Transportation has begun a project to improve the safety of the intersection at U.S. 160 and Vista Boulevard/Meadows Drive west of Pagosa Springs (mile point 138, about a mile west of town). The work, contracted to Crossfire LLC for $1.2 million, is scheduled for completion in late June.

The safety improvements, funded through FASTER (Funding Advancements for Surface Transportation and Economic Recovery), involve adding left-turn lanes from U.S. 160 onto Meadows Drive on the south and Vista Boulevard on the north. The work will also include minor roadway widening, roadside slope flattening, paved shoulder widening to 8 feet and paved approaches from Vista/Meadows.

Through the project’s completion in late June, motorists are likely to encounter single-lane, alternating traffic from 8 a.m. to sundown, Monday through Friday.
