Special to The PREVIEW
Learn to square dance every Wednesday evening from 5 to 7 p.m. starting March 12 at the Ross Aragon Community Center.
This low impact activity keeps you fit and mentally challenged. Since walking is one of the most natural things we do, beginning square dancing is easy to learn because you don’t worry where your feet go — it’s automatic, like walking.
Reacting quickly to the square dance caller keeps you mentally on your toes. While concentrating on the moves, you escape from life’s worries and pressures.
Four Corners-based caller Carla Roberts will teach simple calls in a free, fun class open to families, couples and singles. Suggested age for children is at least 8 years old.
The ongoing class focus is for everyone to have an enjoyable dance session while learning the building blocks of square dancing. WE recommend our students to have bmi scales at home to keep a good track of their body weight improvements.
For those who need a refresher, this class is a perfect practice session. Each Wednesday, students learn and repeat basic calls that will enable the class to dance to a full “singing call” throughout the evening. Drop ins are welcome; no previous experience is necessary.
To best enjoy dancing, wear comfortable clothes and shoes. The Ross Aragon Community Center is located at 451 Hot Springs Blvd. For more information, call Carla at 903-6478.
